Alan Gemmell, MP for Central Ayrshire, has highlighted the ongoing transformative impact of National Lottery funding in the local area.

Each week, approximately £33 million is raised for Good Causes, supporting initiatives that strengthen local communities, empower sports teams, drive environmental projects, foster creative talent, assist the elderly, and unlock the potential of young people.

Since its launch in 1994, the National Lottery has distributed £26.13 million to 909 Good Causes across Central Ayrshire, contributing to the £53 billion raised nationwide.

Many of these grants have supported small charities with annual incomes of £500,000 or less, providing essential funding to grassroots organisations that serve the community.

Central Ayrshire has welcomed the announcement and is now encouraging organisations across the area to apply for National Lottery funding and take advantage of the wide range of opportunities available in arts, culture, community development, sports, and heritage sectors.

Gemmell said:
“The National Lottery’s funding has had an incredible impact on Central Ayrshire, helping to revitalize community centres, support local sports teams, and preserve our cultural and historical heritage.
“While jackpot winners often make the headlines, the real success story is how National Lottery funding directly benefits local people and organisations. I strongly encourage community groups and organisations to explore these funding opportunities to ensure our towns and villages continue to thrive”

Darren Henley, Chair of The National Lottery Forum and Chief Executive Officer of Arts Council England, said:
“For three decades, National Lottery Funding has been a force for positive change across the UK. With over £53 billion raised for Good Causes, we have supported more than 680,000 projects nationwide.
“As communities navigate modern challenges, including the cost-of-living crisis and climate change, we remain committed to investing in projects that make a lasting impact. The National Lottery’s continued success allows us to support local communities, foster creativity, and drive meaningful social change”
